Keeping the planet in mind

Eating insects isn't just cool, it's also good for your dog and the environment. Did you know that meat production releases up to 90% more greenhouse gases compared to insects? Now you know. What else then? Well, now you're about to hear… here are 3 good reasons from an environmental perspective:

1. Dogsup's insects are completely circular

Our insects only eat compost, and the insects that have matured too early are reused to reproduce.

2. Very little water is used

Less than 30 liters of water are used to produce 1 ton of insects. To produce 1 kg of meat today, it requires between 5000-20000 liters of water.

3. Small land area is needed for insects

For 1 ton of our insects, only 20 square meters are needed. Not only that, we can produce 1 ton of insects in just 10 days.

"Why do your insects come from the Netherlands and not Sweden?"

In Sweden, there is currently only one insect farm. That insect farm focuses on raising insects for use in human food. When we were in the startup phase of Dogsup, we engaged in a dialogue with them to explore possibilities, but the fact that they exclusively focus on insects for human consumption and do so on a very small scale made it clear for us to look further south on the continent. Both in the Netherlands and France, they are far ahead of Sweden in terms of research and the number of farms. In total, they have over a dozen farms, and we chose to work with one of the major players with extensive experience in using insects for dog food.
