Latest Research on Insects in Dog Food
Dogsup Friends!
What's really happening in the research on insects? Join us as we share the latest updates. DogsUp is currently collaborating with Protix, which operates the world's largest insect farm in the Netherlands for insects used in animal feed. Here are some highlights from Protix's recent studies on the black soldier fly, which we use in our dog food:
- Insect protein from the black soldier fly emits nearly 7 times less carbon dioxide than soy protein.
- Only 20 square meters and 14 days are needed to produce 1 ton of insects.
- The black soldier fly is one of the most efficient "composting machines" in nature; they have a good appetite and rapidly break down biomass.
- The black soldier fly is fully circular; in our food, the larvae of the black soldier fly are used, and the insects that have matured reproduce.
